'Vikings' Ending After Season 6

History confirmed today that Vikings will be coming to an end after its already-announced sixth season. The news comes well over a year since the veteran drama was last renewed, though a premiere date for its final run has yet to be announced.

Vikings is currently airing its fifth season, with four episodes remaining until its season finale later this month on January 30. While production is said to be complete on its sixth and final season, a premiere date has yet to be penciled in.
While the end of Vikings is in sight, fans may be interested to learn that there is talk of a possible new series in the future from the same team that would continue the franchise. Everything is in the very early stages at this point, so any official word will likely come at a much later date.

'Vikings' Renewed For Season 6

History announced today that Vikings has been renewed for a sixth season. The pickup comes as no surprise, as the veteran drama remains one of the cable network's strongest originals.
Inspired by the epic sagas about the trading and exploring Norsemen of early medieval Scandinavia, the Irish/Canadian co-production focuses on legendary Viking chieftain Ragnar Lodbrok, who was known for raiding France and England with his longships, and eventually becoming the king of Denmark and Sweden.
Today's good news comes over 2 months in advance of the Season 5 premiere, which is scheduled for November 29. Like Season 4, Seasons 5 and 6 of Vikings will both be comprised of 20 episodes apiece.
Production on Season 6 will kick off this fall in Ireland, with a likely premiere not until late 2018 or early 2019.

Vikings Unofficially Renewed for a 4th Season
Whilst not an official renewal as we've not yet received the official press releases, this is as good as it gets.
Investors have stumped up €45m to fund the fourth series of Vikings, the History Channel’s hit drama, before a tax-break deadline.
The record funding round was closed on February 12, a day before the Revenue Commissioners ended the Section 481 tax break. It is understood the money will fund 16 episodes of the series, which is largely filmed at Ashford Studios in Co Wicklow and in the surrounding countryside.
Preparatory work has started for the new series and filming is expected to start in May. It brings total tax-break investment in Vikings to more than €120m across four series.
