Vampire brothers Damon and Stefan Salvatore, eternal adolescents, have been leading 'normal' lives, hiding their bloodthirsty condition, for centuries, moving on before their non-aging is noticed. They are back in the Virginia town where they became vampires, as high school students. Stefan is noble, denying himself blood to avoid killing, and tries to control his evil brother Damon.

Character Bio
Rose is a vampire. She kidnaps Elena in order to hand her over to Elijah, but Elena is saved by Stefan and Damon. She then becomes an ally to them and even starts a small romantic relationship with Damon. After being bitten by werewolf Jules, she endures spasms of great pain, so Damon does her a favor by driving a wooden stake through her heart. She returns as a ghost for one episode in season three, to assist Damon and Elena find out which original vampire their bloodline is from.
