At the season four opening, we see Sookie and Claudine arriving at mystical land of fairies. This glowing new world centered around a magic tree, appears to be fulfilled with magic and harmony called Fae Realm. Claudine tells Sookie that she is her fairy godmother. For years, she has been protecting Sookie from all kinds of danger and saving her life.

Sookie is introduced to several fairies and to her pleasure she already knew some of them. She sees Barry, a porter from the Hotel Carmilla (she met him for the first time in season two, during investigation of Godric's disapperiance). As she starts talking to him, a fairy offers them Lumiere, a delicious light-fruit. Sookie looks around and realizes that all other new-comer fairies are enjoying glowing magical fruit. She was a bit suspicious, but she forgot about fruit as soon as she spotted her grandfather, Earl Stackhouse.

When he recognized her, Earl was confused that she grow up so fast because, in fairyland, last 20 years felt like only a few hours. Sookie starts to hear strange sounds and see upsetting images. She realizes that something is wrong in this perfect magical land. She tries to communicate telepathically with Earl and worn him that this might be a trap, but (as all people there are fairies too) everyone hear her.
Queen Mab is offended and she orders Sookie to eat Lumiere. She refuses and as she throws fruit on the ground it transforms into a shapeless mass as well Queen’s face starts changing. Queen said that Sookie endangered their kind when she let Bill drink her blood allowing him to breach the Realm. In Old Kingdom, Faes were driven away here by vampires who nearly drank them to extinction. Mab ordered harvesting of all humans of faerie descent and bringing them to the Fae Realm, so she can cut off theirs’ connections to world and save theirs’ species.
As Queen tries to force her to eat the fruit, Sookie defends herself and bursts a light from her hand. Suddenly, magical fairy land turns into a parched wold and charming fairies turn into ugly creatures. Fairies start running in panic and Mab orders her minions to catch Sookie.

Sookie and her grandfather are surrounded by creatures shooting lightning bolts at them. They start running, when Claude (Claudine’s brother, one of the fairies who don’t agree with the Queen) offers them a help to escape. He led them to the hole in the ground that appears to be a portal to the human world. Claude said that only Sookie can escape, because the light fruit is used to make a people unable to leave the Fae Realm alive and return to the human world. Mab starts closing the portal, when Sookie decided to jump.

Aware of the risks, Earl jumped after her just to make sure that will return home safely.
As the same moment Sookie appeared in the human world, both Bill and Eric sensed her presense.

On the graveyard, sitting next to Adele Stackhouse’s grave, Earl started to age rapidly and before he turned into ashes he gave Sookie a gift for Jason.
Sookie returns to her home and finds several contractor workers renovating the house. Workers were not pleased when she entered the house despite theirs warnings and they called the police. The cop who arrived was Jason. He was shocked to see her after everyone thought that she was dead. To her big surprise, Sookie finds out that, while spending several minutes in fairyland, she was missing for 12 and half months in real world. Jason is now working as a policeman and he sold their house. After exhaustive search for her, everyone thought that Bill (or some other vampire) killed her.

She explained him that she spent only 10-15 minutes in another world and as a proof she gave him a watch from their grandfather.
As the night felt, Bill came to Sookie’s house to make sure that she is well. They started talking, but Eric interrupted them by telling Sookie that he was the only one still believing that she’s alive.

Bill sent away Eric and, unexpectedly, he obeyed Bill’s order.

When session started Marnie sensed presence of Eddie, Lafayette's deceased vampire lover and ‘V’ supplier, who wanted to communicate. Lafayette was offended and although it felt real – he was sure that this was some kind of a prank.
Arlene returned home and found her baby Mikey sitting on the floor surrounded by heads of dolls.

Terry left the baby alone just for a few moments, but that was more than enough for Mikey to decapitate all of his sisters Barbie dolls. Arlene is very scared that he might have inherited some of his father’s (Rene Lenier) genes.
In New Orleans, Tara is working as a cage fighter.

After all disappointment in men, she is in a relationship with a friend from cage - Naomi. No one knows where she is, but occasionally she sends postcard to Lafayette just to inform him that she’s well.
It’s passed more that year since Hoyt and Jessica started to live together. They have theirs differences, especially in food and Jessica is disgusted that Hoyt expects from her to prepare him human food, in this case eggs.
Jason is spending time with his sister. She is still mad that he sold the house.
At Fangtasia, Nan Flanagan is trying to create a human-friendly atmosphere and regain peoples trust in the American Vampire League.

After Russell’s appearance and manslaughter in live news, Nan needs to take big steps. She convinced Eric and Pam to welcome humans in Fangtasia.
Meanwhile, Bill is making same efforts to get closer to human community. As the oldest member, he is cutting the ribbon at opening of the new center for Arbor society. His right hand is beautiful Portia Bellefleur. As the new Vampire King of Lousiana, he has big plans.

But, who would you rather trust a vampire or a politician?
At Merlotte’s, Sookie is happy to reunite with her old friends. She is sticking to Bill’s story about vampire business, but they are all angry because, in past year, she didn’t even call.
Jason must control Andy who is becoming violent, in this case against Lafayette. After becoming a ‘V’ addict, he is going through a tough withdrawal.

Tommy is alive and well, but he is in physical therapy after Sam shot him in the leg. Maxine Fortenberry is taking care of him, and he is becoming a religious and forgiving boy under her influence.

At Fangtasia, while dancing Jessica smelled a fresh blood and its getting harder for her to control hers vampire urges.

Pam advice her to stop suppressing her vampire nature but Jessica loves Hoyt and will try her best to stay loyal to him.
After shooting his brother, Sam is attending anger management class.

He is gathering with a group of shapeshifters (including charming Luna Garza) and after little talking over dinner, they all go for a race into the woods - turned into horses.
In Hotshot, Jason is still caring after the werepanthers, as he promised to Crystal. He is a little tired of constantly bringing them food and fixing things for them.

When a fridge gets broken (intentionally), two of the werepanter boys, for unknown reason, use this opportunity to trap Jason inside it and lock him down.
At witch coven, Marnie Stonebrook decided to perform some newly learned witchcraft in order to revive her deceased friend, her parrot Minerva.

At first, nothing happen because Lafayette was unwilling to participate. After he decided to join his hands into a circle, Marnie start saying the spell and parrot was live again, but only for few brief moments. For Marnie that was more that enough to prove that she is growing into a powerful witch.
At King’s mansion, Bill received an expected visit from Katerina Pelham.
At Sookie’s home, Eric came uninvited. Even thou she rescind his invitation, he was able to come because he bought Sookie’s house.

He always believed that she was alive and by owning her house, in a way, he owns her.
