Character Bio

Shelton's credentials as a singer are impressive and were well established long before "The Voice" came into his life. He's a five-time winner of Male Vocalist of the Year at the CMA Awards, and has earned a host of other awards and nominations, including the ACMs and Grammys. His Country Music Hall of Fame exhibit, "Blake Shelton: Based on a True Story," was recently unveiled in Nashville and is open until November. Shelton's current single, "She's Got a Way with Words," is quickly climbing the sales and singles charts. It's the follow-up to his most recent No. 1 single, "Came Here to Forget," which was the first song from his latest album, "If I'm Honest." The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Album Chart and was the best-selling album overall during its release week. The 15-track collection contains several songs written by Shelton, including "Friends," which is featured in "The Angry Birds Movie," the gospel-tinged "Savior's Shadow" and "Go Ahead and Break My Heart," a duet he co-wrote and performs with Gwen Stefani. He has garnered 17 consecutive No. 1 singles, the most of any country artist in the modern era, giving him a total of 22 chart-toppers overall. His 2001 self-titled debut album yielded his first No. 1 single, "Austin." In addition to "The Voice," Shelton has appeared on television as a judge on "Nashville Star" and "Clash of the Choirs," along with his own Christmas special on NBC, "Blake Shelton's Not So Family Christmas." In March, he hosted the Kids' Choice Awards on Nickelodeon. Shelton was born, raised and currently resides in Oklahoma, where he has strong community ties. In response to the devastating tornadoes of 2013, he and NBC teamed up on the telethon "Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert." With the help of fellow music stars, including Reba McEntire, Usher, Rascal Flatts, Vince Gill and Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, the telethon raised more than $6 million for United Way of Central Oklahoma.
