Character Bio
K-9 was originally designed and built by Professor Marius, a friend of the fourth Doctor. When the Professor couldn't take K-9 back to Earth because of weight restrictions, he became the Doctor's faithful dog.
The Doctor knew his former travelling companion, Sarah Jane Smith, would love a K-9 of her own, so he built K-9 Mark III and sent him to his old friend as a present!
Sarah Jane and K-9 made a great team, battling enemies ranging from a witches' coven to the Krillitanes. After an explosive encounter at Rose Tyler's old school, the Doctor had to build K-9 Mark IV and this version stayed with Sarah Jane, helping her on many occasions - including saving her life when Mr Smith went crazy evil!
But for much of the time, K-9 had to leave his owner's side and was left to float in space where he averted disaster by sealing off an artificially created black hole. Of course, this left Sarah Jane on her own for a while. But all that changed with the arrival of Luke, Maria and Clyde... but that's another story!
