A&E Cancels The Returned

It is being reported that A&E has cancelled The Returned after one season. The freshman drama aired 10 episodes this spring but failed to draw significant ratings for the cable network.
The Returned was an adaptation of the 2012 French series Les Revenants. Even though that show premiered three years ago, it will be returning for a second season this fall. Another American series with a similar premise, Resurrection, was also cancelled last month after two seasons on ABC.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, has been cast as one of the leads in A&E's drama series The Returned. Also cast in the series are Sandrine Holt and Agnes Bruckner. The Returned focuses on a small town that is turned upside down when several local people who have been long presumed dead suddenly reappear, bringing with them both positive and detrimental consequences. Winstead plays Rowan, the girlfriend of late musician Simon who had a very difficult time getting past his death 10 years ago and now will have to adjust to his return. Holt plays Julie, a competent compassionate doctor who is struggling in her personal life. Bruckner will play the sheriff’s chief deputy.

The drama, already ordered for ten episodes, is an adaptation of a French series about a small town whose residents suddenly come back to life years after a fatal bus crash. Sisto will play Peter, a psychologist who has been helping the townspeople overcome their grief by running a support group.

Pellegrino will play Jack. Said to be rugged, he’s also the father of twin girls, 20-year-old Lena, and Camille, who died at the age of 16 in a school bus crash and is now returning.

Casting for the series, which is expected to debut in 2015, is now underway.
