'The Purge' Renewed By USA Network
USA Network announced today that The Purge has been renewed for a second season. The good news comes ahead of tonight's Season 1 finale, which caps a successful debut run for the horror drama.
The hour-long series premiered in September and has gone on to become the cable network's top drama. While reviews have been mixed, this season it has so far averaged 2.3 million viewers (Live+7), with 1.2 million in the adults 18-49 demographic.
Based on the movie franchise of the same name, The Purge is set in an alternate version of America, where a totalitarian political party is in power. During a 12-hour period when all crime is legal, even murder, various seemingly-unrelated, conflicted residents of a small city go to great lengths to survive the night as the clock winds down.
