The Muppets return to primetime with a contemporary, documentary-style show. For the first time ever, a series will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, breakups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires.
The Muppets television revival will be short-lived, as ABC has cancelled the series after just one season. The reboot got off to a strong start last fall, ranking as the season's highest-rated new series on Tuesday nights after its first five episodes.
Nostalgia evidently started to wear off not long after that, however, and its viewership started to taper off. The network tried to right the ship by bringing in a new showrunner to give the series a midseason reboot, but it failed to breathe new life into the faltering show.
