'The Crown' To Air Six Seasons

Netflix announced today that The Crown will be airing six seasons after all, walking back its announcement from earlier this year that stated Season 5 would be the end. The news should come as a pleasant surprise to fans who were dismayed when the streamer said the royalty drama would be concluding earlier than planned.
It was in February that the unexpected news hit, with creator Peter Morgan claiming that working on the storyline for Season 5 gave him clarity that it was "the perfect time and place to stop". Fast forward five months, and Morgan clearly no longer feels the same way.
"As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5," said Morgan, "it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons. To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail."

'The Crown' To End With Season 5

Netflix has confirmed that The Crown will be ending its story after its fifth season. The unexpected news arrives less than two months following the release of Season 3. While fans will still get two more seasons of the British royalty drama, the targeted conclusion does come earlier than originally expected.
Nothing was officially set in stone, but creator Peter Morgan had previously stated that he envisioned the series lasting for six seasons. With today's announcement, Morgan noted that working on the storyline for Season 5 gave him clarity that "this is the perfect time and place to stop".
The Crown takes an inside look at the early reign of Queen Elizabeth II, who at the age of 25 ascended the throne after the death of King George VI. From the 1940s to modern times, the biographical drama follows the romances, rivalries, and personal intrigues that occurred throughout the decades, helping shape the later years of the 20th century.

Even though season two finishes in 1964, season three will begin in the Seventies, where we will meet a slightly older Royal Family. That means an all-new cast. As Peter Morgan, the show’s writer said: ‘You can’t ask someone to act middle-aged. Someone has to bring their own fatigue to it. The feelings we all have as 50-year-olds are different than the feelings we all have as 30-year-olds.’
