South Park is a subversive animated series featuring four boys who live in the Colorado town of South Park, which is beset by frequent odd occurrences. The show grew out of short film that Trey Parker and Matt Stone created called The Spirit of Christmas.
Comedy Central announced today that South Park has been picked up for Seasons 24, 25, and 26. The renewal is similar to the one it received in 2015, which was also a three-season order for a total of 30 episodes. The news comes two weeks ahead of the animated comedy's 23rd season premiere.
South Park is the longest-running primetime cable scripted series on television, and has also been the top-rated primetime cable comedy for the last six years. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have written and directed every episode since its inception in 1997, and will continue to do so moving forward.
Season 23 of South Park will premiere on Wednesday, September 25.
