[show all]Information from a distraught woman rescued from a drifting raft revives the mystery of the drowning of crew member ET (David Lyons), and results in an ugly near death experience for one of his former crew-mates.
Dehydrated and almost incoherent, Belinda Lloyd (Mira Pawel) says she and her husband Frank were kayaking when they were attacked by pirates, and although Mike (Ian Stenlake) tells her they will search for the missing man, the crew thinks the woman is “nuts.”
Because Hammersley is on a routine patrol of a northern oil field, most believe it is unlikely pirates would be active in the area.
But as Nikki (Saskia Burmeister) assists Belinda below decks, the woman points to a photograph of ET and insists he was one of the pirates, although she is hazy about how long ago the attack occurred. The next day she and her raft are missing.
In a search of nearby Penfold Island, Kate (Lisa McCune) and Bomber (Kirsty Lee Allan) find Belinda’s makeshift shelter and a camera containing a memory card which reveals an image of ET, the day before he was killed.
But while Nikki struggles with this knowledge, a far more dangerous incident occurs when Buffer (Jeremy Lindsay Taylor) slips and plummets into an old W11 oil tank. It seems to be unused – until oil begins to pump in above him.
A desperate rescue exercise led by Charge (John Batchelor) saves Buffer from an oily demise, and back on board he returns the favor – by discovering who has been tempting Charge to abandon his weight loss plan.
The weight loss is vital for Charge, who runs the risk of being considered too overweight for active duty. The mysterious delivery of Tim Tams is not helping him.
Meanwhile further exploration of the island reveals that the old WW11 storage tank is being used to collect oil illegally skimmed from underwater pipes from the offshore rig, and while this takes Mike’s attention, Nikki is desperate to find Belinda in the hope she can shed light on ET’s death.
First the raft is found abandoned, and then the body of Belinda Lloyd is discovered, ending Nikki’s hopes of finding who was behind the death of her fiancée.
