After a dangerous departure from Samaru, Commander Mike Flynn (Ian Stenlake) is recovering in hospital.

The acting command of Hammersley by Kate (Lisa McCune) is ended with the arrival of a legendary Navy veteran, Lieut. Commander Jack Freeman (Geoff Morrell).

Charge (John Batchelor) is delighted with the arrival of the golf club wielding officer because he has served with him in the past.

But tension arcs when Freeman seems determined to undermine and belittle Kate in front of her crew.

And painkilling drugs have been stolen by someone on board.

On shore, Mike finds himself sharing the same hospital floor as the vicious mercenary believed to have attacked Charge.

Befriending the patient with offers of mobile phone use, Mike’s early suspicions grow as a result.

On the ocean, where a simple mistake by Kate may have led to the death of a merchant seaman, the crew is becoming increasingly wary – until Freeman’s behavior becomes too irrational to be ignored.

At breakfast, he orders Bomber (Kirsty Lee Allen) to destroy dozens of eggs because he doubts their freshness.

Then he demands humiliating deck exercises for all crew, gives ill advised navigational orders – and eventually orders illegal fire on a fishing vessel.
