Queen Sugar, set in the fictional town of Saint Josephine, Louisiana, chronicles the lives and loves of the estranged Bordelon siblings: Nova, a worldly-wise journalist and activist; Charley, the savvy wife & manager of a professional basketball star; & Ralph Angel, a formerly incarcerated young father in search of redemption. After a family tragedy, the Bordelons must navigate the triumphs & struggles of their complicated lives in order to run a struggling sugarcane farm in the Deep South.
Nova publishes an article on defunding the police, Ralph Angel has financial problems, and Violet delivers a pie to a mysterious person. Plus, Nova's planned vaccination drive for St. Jo residents erupts in chaos, leaving someone injured.
OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced today that Queen Sugar has been picked up for a fifth season. The good news comes with the day after the drama's Season 4 finale, which capped another solid run that drew continued praise and solid ratings.
Co-created and executive produced by Oprah Winfrey, Queen Sugar follows estranged sisters who reunite in Louisiana after inheriting their father's sugarcane farm. Showrunner Anthony Sparks will back in Season 5, making him the drama's first multi-season showrunner.
