Max Lewicki is Pierce’s teaching assistant whose primary job is to keep Pierce in line and on task, in the classroom and at home. Lewicki handles Pierce’s demanding schedule and takes care of his domestic demands. More importantly, he keeps Pierce centered and stable, alerting him when his intuitions are off-base or when he seems to have trouble distinguishing reality from hallucination. Although Lewicki likes and respects for Pierce, he begins to question whether his employer is holding him back from achieving his own career goals.
