Merlin, a boy on the cusp of adulthood, arrives in Camelot hoping to find an use for the strange metaphysical powers he has possessed before he could even talk. Instead, he learns that King Uther, ruler of Camelot, despises magic and has instituted a kingdom-wide ban on any practice of sorcery under penalty of death. Audiences experience a series of magical adventures as they follow the unlikely friendship of a would-be wizard and the future King.

Character Bio

To Merlin he is known as Kilgharrah, to the world; The Great Dragon. He is the last of his kind after Uther destroys all of his kin. Merlins father is tricked by Uther who imprisons him in a vast underground cave. The Great Dragon gives Merlin grudging advice and forges the sword of Excalibur in his breath for Arthur. The Dragon appears omniscient at times, and his motivations are unknown beyond his desire to be released from the dungeons of Camelot. Merlin eventually does release him, unwittingly unleashing a full-on assault on Camelot by the dragon, seeking revenge for his murdered kin. However, Merlin learns from his father that he is descended from a long line of dragonlords, and is able to use their craft to control the Great Dragon. Merlin let's the dragon go telling him never to return to Camelot. Through out the show Merlin calls on him and they build a strong friend ship. Merlin saves the last know dragon egg and calls the dragon out by name Aithusa making Kilgharrah no longer the last of his kin.
