Character Bio

Kwon Sun-Hwa (née Paik: 백) (Korean name: Hangul: 백선화 or 권선화, Hanja: 白善華) is married to Jin-Soo Kwon and is one of the middle section survivors of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815. Before the crash, Sun and Jin's marriage was very unstable, due to Jin's controlling and violent nature, and their problems having children and she began having an affair with another man, resulting in her almost leaving Jin. On the Island, Sun and Jin were disconnected from the rest of the survivors, as they were the only ones who didn't speak English. However, her secret was soon exposed as she was revealed to speak English, to the shock of everyone, especially her husband. Jin felt betrayed and shunned Sun until they reconciled just before he left on the raft. After finding the messages in the bottle that were taken on the raft she grew worried of his fate but they were eventually reunited when Jin returned to camp with the Tail Section Survivors. Despite Jin's infertility, Sun was able to somehow conceive a baby on the Island, which strengthened their marriage. However, Sun was worried that the baby may belong to the man she had an affair with, so with the help of Juliet they discovered that the baby was actually Jin's, made possible by the healing properties of the Island. But Juliet warned Sun of the fate of pregnant women on Island and urged her to leave as soon as possible. After Jack called the Freighter for rescue, Sun and Jin managed to make their way to freighter offshore, yet the two were separated when Jin was left behind as Sun left on a helicopter with the rest of the Oceanic Six. The Island was moved by Benjamin Linus and the freighter exploded with Jin still on it, leading Sun to believe her husband had died. When she returned to civilization, she blamed her father and Ben for Jin's death, and contacted Charles Widmore, claiming they had "common interests" in killing Ben Linus. However, when Ben managed to convince her that Jin was still alive, this encouraged her to return to the Island with Ben and the Oceanic Six via Ajira Flight 316. During the crash, her friends dissapeared and Sun soon discovered that Jin and the rest of the survivors had flashed in time and were living on the Island in 1977. She followed Ben, the Others, and the ressurected "Locke" to the Statue where they met up with Ilana who revealed John Locke's corpse from the plane's cargo hold, leading Sun to wonder who she's been following.
