"High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" follows a group of students as they countdown to the opening night of their school's first-ever production of High School Musical. Disney's upcoming streaming platform, Disney+, has renewed its first original series. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series has been picked up for a second season ahead of its November 8 premiere.
Billed as a modern take on the classic film series of the same name, the musical dramedy follows a group of students at East High who are counting down to opening night of their school's first-ever production of "High School Musical."
Viewers will get their first look at the new show during a special premiere of the first episode on Friday, November 8 airing on ABC, Disney Channel, and Freeform. After that, the series moves exclusively to Disney+ as part of the service's official launch on November 12. New episodes of its 10-episode freshman run will then premiere each Friday.
Production on Season 2 is expected to kick off early next year, for a likely return in mid-to-late 2020.
