HBO has cast Naomi Watts

(Gypsy, The Glass Castle) to star in the upcoming ensemble Game of Thrones prequel pilot from Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Kingsman) and Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, the untitled project is set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones. The project Martin refers to as The Long Night chronicles the world's descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it's not the story we think we know.

Watts will play a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret. Her character name has not been revealed.

HBO Confirms 'Game Of Thrones' Final Season

HBO announced today that Game of Thrones will be returning for an eighth and final season. It has been well over a year since we learned that the cable network was planning to end the fantasy saga after Season 8, and now we have an official confirmation that the series will indeed be coming to a close.
HBO has ordered six episodes for the show's final run, which will not return until sometime in 2019. Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are among the writers and directors slated for the final season. Acclaimed director Miguel Sapochnik, who won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series in 2016, will also be returning behind the camera.

Game Of Thrones To End With Season 8

A few months after Game of Thrones was renewed for a seventh season, HBO has confirmed that plans are in place to end the series after Season 8, which has yet to be formally announced. The move doesn't come as a complete shock, as rumors ahead of its previous renewal speculated that showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were eyeing two last seasons to end the show.

The adaptation of George R.R. Martin's fantasy drama has been a massive hit for HBO, and even after eight seasons will still be going out on top, as its ratings show no sign of slowing down any time soon. With such huge numbers, it's no surprise that the cable network has stated that they'd be happy to do plenty more seasons of the show, but as it stands now, they are letting the showrunners take the lead as to when to conclude the series.

Showrunners Confirm Game of Thrones Will Spoil The Books. It’s no secret that HBO’s Game of Thrones is on course to outpace George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. Though the author is hard at work on the sixth book in the series, The Winds of Winter, the television show must go on. They can’t go on a multiple year hiatus. Since showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff have already changed certain plots from the books, it’s been up in the air whether they would create a brand new ending for Game of Thrones. Not anymore though. Speaking at the Oxford Union along with Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Weiss and Benioff confirmed the television series will spoil the books.
