Research scientist Peter Bishop and FBI agent Olivia Dunham team up to investigate paranormal and other "fringe" scientific activity. With the help of Bishop’s father, Walter, a brilliant (but possibly insane) scientist, their investigations take them into both ground-breaking and frightening areas of "fringe" science.

The Observer ( AKA September ) is any one of many secretive men that watch Pattern events. They appear ordinary, bald, and they lack eyebrows. They all have a somewhat peculiar vocal cadence, and they seem to have the ability to read the minds of others at will.
