Frankie Drake Mysteries follows Toronto’s only female private detective in the 1920's as she takes on the cases the police don’t want or can’t handle. Along with her partner Trudy, Frankie and the Drake Detective Agency take on cases of all shapes and sizes. From airplanes and booze running to American G-men, Communists and union busters, Frankie’s fearless sense of adventure gets her into all kinds of trouble, but she always manages to find her way out.

Mary Shaw comes from a law enforcement family, and she’s not going to let the fact that women aren’t permitted to be full Toronto police officers stop her from following in her father’s footsteps. Though she may not be fulfilled by her work as a Morality Officer, measuring skirts and hauling women into the precinct for being out alone at night, Mary’s single-minded in her pursuit of law and order. Both fascinated by and envious of the work Frankie and Trudy do, Mary uses her access to police files to help the ladies get information and track down suspects. In return, the ladies teach her the ways of the private detective – how to play less by the rules and more by the seat of the pants.
