The Doctor looks and seems human. The Doctor is good-looking, sexy and witty, and could be mistaken for just another person in the street. But the Doctor is a Time Lord: a 909 year old alien with 2 hearts, part of a gifted civilization who mastered time travel with the TARDIS. The Doctor saves planets for a living and is very, very good at it. The human race will survive - but only with the Doctor's help.

The Master is a recurring antagonist in the British television science fiction series Doctor Who and the vast range of associated and spin-off works. He is a renegade alien Time Lord and the archenemy of the title protagonist the Doctor. The Master has been played by multiple actors since the character's introduction in 1971. The changes in appearance are explained within the show as a consequence of regeneration, a biological attribute of Time Lords allowing them to survive fatal incidents at the cost of an incarnation. The Master was played by Roger Delgado from the character's first appearance in 1971 until the actor's death in 1973. Peter Pratt and Geoffrey Beevers played a physically decayed version of the Time Lord, then Anthony Ainley assumed the part from 1981 until the show's cancellation in 1989.
In the 1996 TV movie, the character was played briefly by Gordon Tipple and then by Eric Roberts. For the revived series, Derek Jacobi provided the character's re-introduction before handing over the role to John Simm.
