The Deadliest Job in America is, claimed to be crab fishing on the Bering Sea. A good season can make one man a year’s salary in just a few days! With forty-foot waves, 700 pound crab pots, freezing temperatures and your mortality staring you in the face…this job ranks as one of the deadliest.
Born and Raised in Louisiana, Kelly is the Cape Caution’s new greenhorn. Kelly met Bill over drinks in Alabama, and after keeping in touch for two years, Bill invited Kelly to come work on the Cape Caution.
Kelly doesn’t know much about Zack and Nick, but he’s not fond of working in “father/son” situations, as it has turned out nasty for him in the past.
A military veteran, Kelly has skippered vessels since he was 17 and has operated a 48-foot marlin/tuna boat in the Gulf of Mexico. Although he has never fished in the Bering Sea, he claims to have fished in hurricane force storms. With the red snapper season ending in the Gulf, he’s jumping into crabbing in order to make a living.
With a fiancee and two two-year-old twin boys, his goals are to take care of his family, get invited back and get a big Rolex watch like Captain Bill’s. Although he says he’s prepared for the Bering Sea, it remains to be seen whether Kelly’s truly got what it takes to survive the relentless pressure that comes with working on a crab deck.
