This mini-series is based on three of Elizabeth Gaskell's novellas and is brought to life by an all-star cast. The story follows the lives of the inhabitants of a northern market town in the mid 1800s. Amongst other things the arrival of a new doctor and the ever-encroaching railway provide the townsfolk with plenty to get excited about.
