In the frontier town of Nome, Alaska, there’s a gold rush on. But you’ve never seen gold mining like this before — here, the precious metal isn’t found in the ground. It’s sitting in the most unlikely of places: the bottom of the frigid, unpredictable Bering Sea. And there are a handful of people willing to risk it all to bring it to the surface.

Brad Kelly's eldest son, Kris, began mining in California with his dad and younger brother Andy. When mining was outlawed in that state, the family moved to Hawaii.
Kris spends the off-season in Hawaii, where he is a house painter and loves to surf.
After a failed season with Steve Riedel, Kris is now working with his dad and brother on their own operation.
So far, Kris seems like the only one to take the dredge seriously. Can he get the rest of his family on board?
