Alexander "Xander" Harper Berkeley (born December 16, 1955) is an American actor. He is best known for his roles television roles of George Mason on the political thriller series 24. In films, he is known for having portrayed a wide range of supporting and character roles in the well-known films The Fabulous Baker Boys, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Candyman, Gattaca, Taken, Safe, Kick-Ass, Air Force One, Shanghai Noon, If These Walls Could Talk, Five and Sid and Nancy.

Berkeley was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 16, 1955, but has lived most of his life in New Jersey. He attended Hampshire College and worked in the theaters at the five college system which Hampshire was a part of, including Smith, Mount Holyoke, Amherst, and the University of Massachusetts. Berkeley worked in the Regional and Repertory Theaters in addition to Off Broadway while living in New York. A casting agent saw Berkeley in a play written by Reynolds Price called Early Dark, and encouraged him to move to Hollywood.

Berkeley began acting as a child at a local experimental theater and made his first big-screen appearance in Mommie Dearest (1981). By the mid-'80s roles were coming in fast. He was 'Tom Hanks' roommate in Volunteers (1985), and in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) he played John Connor's foster parent. He was Capt. Whitaker in 'Rob Reiner' A Few Good Men (1992), and gave a good performance as Henry Hurt in Apollo 13 (1995). He had a great role as turncoat Secret Service agent Gibbs in Air Force One (1997), and most recently has been doing a standout turn as George Mason in the TV series 24 (2001), a role that has brought him critical acclaim. Like many other actors, in the future he would like to take up directing.

Berkeley began playing roles in 1981, with early appearances in M*A*S*H, Cagney & Lacey, Remington Steele, Miami Vice, Moonlighting and The A-Team. Although not becoming a household name, Berkeley's face was increasingly recognizable into the 1990s. His later television guest roles included The X-Files, CSI, ER, 24 and Law & Order.

Berkeley has provided voices for animated series such as Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, Teen Titans and Gargoyles. He voiced Quentin Beck/Mysterio in The Spectacular Spider-Man and Captain Atom in the animated movie Superman/Batman: Public Enemies.

He portrayed the mysterious John Smith on the CBS drama Jericho.

In 2010, he received one of his best known roles that of the role Percy Rose in the CW action-thriller series Nikita he portrayed the character as a series regular in the show's first two seasons as well as being the series' de-facto main antagonist of its first two seasons.

In 2013, Berkeley won the Streamy Award for "Best Male Performance, Drama" his starring role in the acclaimed webseries, The Booth At The End.

Berkeley is a painter and a sculptor, as well as a make-up artist. Berkeley met Sarah Clarke on the set of 24 in 2001, and married her the following year. Berkeley and Clarke live with their two daughters in Los Angeles, California, where he works as a painter and sculptor when he is not acting.

  • Appeared again with _"24" (2001)_ (qv) co-star 'Reiko Aylesworth' (qv) in _Magma: Volcanic Disaster (2006) (TV)_ (qv). In "24," they played boss and subordinate, in "Magma"; they played husband and wife (they were both killed off on "24" by that time).
  • He and 'Glenn Morshower' (qv) both made guest appearances on _"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (2000)_ (qv) as Las Vegas sheriffs. They also both had recurring roles on _"24" (2001)_ (qv), and they also starred together in _Air Force One (1997)_ (qv).
  • Daughter Olwyn Harper was born on September 23rd 2006.
  • Appeared with wife 'Sarah Clarke (I)' (qv) in the first two seasons of _"24" (2001)_ (qv) (although they rarely, if at all, shared scenes).
  • Characters he plays are frequently killed in plane crashes; in _The Rookie (1990)_ (qv), _Air Force One (1997)_ (qv), and _"24" (2001)_ (qv)
  • Is an accomplished painter and sculptor.
