Born Yila Timothy Kang, he is best known to TV audiences for his role as Detective Kimball Cho on 'The Mentalist'.
Born and raised in San Francisco, Kang graduated from the University of California with B.A. in political science before heading east to attend the prestigious A.R.T. Institute at Harvard Universty, where he received his Master of Fine Arts degree. Also, he studied at the Moscow Art Theatre School in Russia. He is fluent in Korean, and holds a black belt in Taekwondo.
He has had guest roles in numerous TV series, Madam Secretary, Lethal Weapon, American Horror Story, Criminal Minds, The Vampire Diaries, The Office, The Sopranos, Law & Order and The Ghost Whisperer to name a few. His television credits also include recurring roles on the series Cloak and Dagger, The Unit, Third Watch and most recently, Magnum P.I.
Additionally, Kang is widely recognized from past national commercial campaigns that include AT&T and Shell Gasoline.
Kang's big screen appearances include 'Rambo, 'The Forgotten' and 'Two Weeks Notice' and Disney film 'A Wrinkle in Time', as well as originating the lead role of Ray in 'Aubrgine' at Berkeley Repertory Theatre and went on to lead the New York City premiere of the play at the Playwrights Horizons.
Kang has been a spokesperson for The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and his production company One Shoot Films produced a dramatic short film on the topic of human trafficking.
