Rick Hoffman (born June 12, 1970) is an American actor.

Hoffman was born in New York City, New York and raised in Roslyn Heights, New York. He graduated from The Wheatley School in Old Westbury, NY before attending the University of Arizona. After graduating from University of Arizona, Rick moved to Los Angeles to start his acting career. He landed his first role as a security guard in Conspiracy Theory in 1997 and he was so nervous that he changed his 2 lines. Luckily, his misread got laughs by Julia Roberts and Richard Donner and the entire crew, was included in the final cut, giving him some much-needed attention.[citation needed]

He had some other small roles until he received his breakout role as the Freddie Sacker on Darren Star's Wall Street series "The $treet" in 2000 which allowed him to quit his job waiting tables and move back to New York. Since then he has had several memorable roles on series such as Terry Loomis on the critically acclaimed Steven Bochco law drama "Philly" in 2002. These roles got Variety Magazine's attention and elected Rick one of "Variety's 10 Actors to Watch". Then came Jerry Best in "The Bernie Mac Show" 2002-2005, and Patrick Van Dorn on the John Stamos comedy "Jake in Progress" 2004- 2005.

He has had many cameo and supporting appearances in movies, such as "The Day After Tomorrow", "Bloodwork", "Hostel", and "Cellular" to name a few. As of 2007 he plays Goldman in Lions Gate Films "The Condemned". During the production of "The Condemned" in Australia, Hoffman suffered a near-death experience.[1]

Hoffman resides in Los Angeles.

  • Grew up in Roslyn Heights, New York.
  • In 2000, Hoffman was waiting tables in NYC to get by while auditioning for television and movie roles. Upon receiving word that he won the role of Freddie Sacker on _"The $treet" (2000)_ (qv) he quit and moved to Los Angeles.
  • Attended The Wheatley School high school.
  • Attended University of Arizona.
