Paula Shaw admits to a professional acting career spanning over 40 years in New York, Los Angeles and Vancouver. Born in the Bronx, Shaw trod the stages from Broadway to off and off-off through the 60s. She has a long history of playing character roles much older than her years, touring as the “somewhere-between-40-and-death” role of Vera Charles in Mame when she was only 27. She also played the middle-aged Virginia Wolfe, both in New York when she was 26, and again in Los Angeles at the age of 36.

Recent television credits include recurring roles in hit children’s series Mr. Young, Terminal City and These Arms of Mine; guest starring roles in The Haunting Hour, DaVinci’s Inquest and Cold Squad. Previous guest credits also include 21 Jump Street, Wiseguy, The X Files, Twilight Zone, Beggars And Choosers, The Outer Limits, Just Cause, So Weird, The Commish and The New Addams Family.

Among Shaw’s feature film credits are the role of Jason’s mother in the cult classic Freddie Vs. Jason and a co-starring role as the coroner with 'Al Pacino' in Christopher Nolan’s Insomnia.

Her long list of made-for-TV movie credits include Hitched For The Holidays, Home For The Holidays, Chupacabra-Dark Seas, We’ll Meet Again, Deadlocked, Fatal Memories, And Your Name is Jonah and When The Bow Breaks.

Shaw recurred on 70s and 80s hit series like Barney Miller, Three’s Company and for 7 years on the long running soap The Young and the Restless. During those years she also added the following guest-starring credits to her long list: The Bob Newhart Show, Tony Randall Show, Archie Bunker’s Place and All That Glitters.

A lifetime member of the famed Actors Studio, Shaw has also been a session moderator there. She is an acting coach and has taught acting and improvisation classes and workshops for decades in many venues, including The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute - LA and Cal Arts. For over 25 years, Shaw has taught Self Expression courses (THE MAX) and Improv Inspiration workshops at The Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA, and also taught THE MAX in Cologne, Germany, and Dorset, England.

A dual citizen, Shaw divides her time between Vancouver and Los Angeles.
