Molly Kathleen Ringwald (born February 18, 1968) is an American actress, singer, dancer, and author. Having appeared in the John Hughes films Sixteen Candles (1984), The Breakfast Club (1985), and Pretty in Pink (1986), Ringwald is part of the "Brat Pack" and has been called the greatest teen star of all time. She has also played Anne Juergens in the ABC Family show The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Ringwald released an album at the age of 6 entitled, "I Wanna Be Loved By You, Molly Sings". She is the youngest daughter of Bob Ringwald, the blind jazz pianist. At age five she starred in a stage production of "Alice in Wonderland", playing the dormouse.

  • 'David Lynch (I)' (qv) sent her the screenplay of _Blue Velvet (1986)_ (qv), in the hope that she would be interested in playing the role of Sandy, which was eventually played by 'Laura Dern' (qv). However, Molly's mother read it first, and because it disturbed her, she never showed it to Molly for consideration.
  • At the beginning of her film collaboration with 'John Hughes (I)' (qv), she was driving a silver VW Rabbit convertible. By the time it ended with _Pretty in Pink (1986)_ (qv), she was driving a white BMW.
  • Turned down the 'Julia Roberts (I)' (qv) role in _Pretty Woman (1990)_ (qv) and the 'Demi Moore' (qv) role in _Ghost (1990)_ (qv)
  • Family: dad, 'Robert Ringwald' (qv); mom, Adele; older sister, 'Beth Ringwald' (qv); older brother, Kelly.
  • Her first acting break was as Kate in the West Coast production of "Annie".
  • Because her name is so associated with the "brat pack" movies of the 1980s, there is a band that plays covers of '80s hits called "The Molly Ringwalds."
  • She revealed at the _2005 MTV Movie Awards (2005) (TV)_ (qv) that she's having negotiations about a sequel to _Sixteen Candles (1984)_ (qv).
  • Auditioned for one of the lead roles in _Ghost (1990)_ (qv). The character she was tested for was ironically named Molly. (That part ultimately went to 'Demi Moore' (qv), a fellow member of the so-called Brat Pack.)
