- He played Association Football as an amateur for Reading and professionally for Brentford and Fulham. As the Chairman of the Professional Footballers Association, he negotiated the end of players wage capping in 1961. This resulted in the Fulham captain Johnny Haynes becoming the first player to earn £100 per week. He became a successful broadcaster with ITV, the BBC and Sky. He managed Coventry City to two promotions between 1961 and 1967. He later served as Chairman of Coventry City, Charlton Athletic and Fulham Football Clubs.
