Edward James Begley Jr. is an American actor and environmental activist. Begley has appeared in hundreds of films, television shows, and stage performances. He played Dr. Victor Ehrlich on the television series St. Elsewhere (1982–1988). The role earned him six consecutive Primetime Emmy Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award nomination. He also co-hosted, along with wife Rachelle Carson, the green living reality show entitled Living with Ed (2007–2010).
Equally prolific in cinema, Begley's best known films include Stay Hungry (1976), Blue Collar (1978), An Officer and a Gentleman (1982), This Is Spinal Tap (1984), The Accidental Tourist(1988), She-Devil (1989), The Pagemaster (1994), Batman Forever (1995), Auto Focus (2002), Pineapple Express (2008), What's Your Number? (2011), Ghostbusters (2016) and CHiPS(2017). He is a recurring cast member in the mockumentaries of Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy, including Best in Show (2000), A Mighty Wind (2003), For Your Consideration (2006), and Mascots (2016).

  • He used to appear on a US radio soap called 'Milford Haven' with fiance, Mara Purl. They had their future marriage vows blessed in the town of the same name in Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK. Vows that were sadly never completed.
  • Produces and sells an all-natural household cleaning product called "Begley's Best.".
  • Has a daughter named Hayden Carson (b. 2000) with wife 'Rachelle Carson' (qv).
  • His home is solar powered and he primarily uses his bike and public transportation.
  • He quit his job as the Los Angeles Environmental Commissioner when he realized that he was destroying trees by all the paper the commission was using.
  • Member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Actors Branch) [2000-]
  • Was part of a comedy duo in the '60s with 'Michael Richards (I)' (qv).
