BIOGRAPHY:

Bianca Amato was born in South Africa, where she graduated with Distinction from the University of Cape Town's Drama Department. She worked extensively in theatre and television in South Africa, most notably as the lead in "Isidingo: The Need" (1999), South Africa's premiere television series. Her portrayal of Phillipa De Villiers, a feisty young Englishwoman romantically involved with a black mine manager (a groundbreaking interracial storyline for post-Apartheid South African television), made her a beloved household name. Her work on this series, and her performances on stage (including the South African Premiere of David Auburn's "Proof") garnered her awards and recognition that led to her receiving a Green Card as an Alien of Extraordinary Ability. Bianca moved to the US in 2001, and has since guest starred on "Sex and the City" (1998), and performed in many New York stage productions, including "Mr. Fox: A Rumination" Starring Bill Irwin (I), "The Importance of Being Earnest" at BAM, starring Lynn Redgrave and directed by Peter Hall (I), and "The Coast of Utopia" on Broadway, starring Billy Crudup and Ethan Hawke, directed by 'Jack O'Brien'. She has established a wonderful relationship with the Guthrie Theater, where she has played Rosalind in "As You Like It", Elizabeth in "Pride and Prejudice", Eliza Doolittle in "Pygmalion", and Marlene in "Topgirls".
