Before Davis ventured to television to portray Annalise Keating (a role in which the actress won a Primetime Emmy Award for), she was seen in a range of films. Hey, you have to start somewhere!
Viola Davis didn't really capture the attention of Hollywood until she joined the cast of Doubt. For her little bit of screen time in the drama (right around 10 minutes or so), the actress earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Doubt also starred Meryl Streep, who, interestingly enough, is believed to have robbed Davis just a few years later.

In 2012, both Davis and Streep were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. Many speculated that the former would win for her starring role in The Help. However, Streep ultimately took home the gold statue for her work in The Iron Lady.
As the Hollywood award season nears closer once again, many are wondering if Viola Davis can pull through and finally win an Oscar for her acting chops in Fences.
Actually, it seems like a no-brainer. Though the film (directed by Denzel Washington) has yet to be released, Davis has already earned rave reviews for her talents. Originally a play, the actress already took home a Tony Award for the project back in 2010. It only seems natural that the Oscar would follow.
Fences hits theaters on Christmas Day.
