Comic Con is a fan convention. There are several throughout the US and the world, however the San Diego event (Comic Con International: San Diego) is the largest in the country and it's been a strong annual event since 1970. The multi-genre and pop culture plastered four-day convention is all about comics, new movies, anime, cartoons, television shows and all kinds of fan favorites!
Thousands of people attend to see the actors, writers and geniuses give sneak peeks, answer questions, autograph and dish out previews for upcoming seasons and airings. There are panels, sessions, reviews and workshops too, plus an entire autograph area and exhibit hall featuring collectors items for sale (with over 1,000 participating vendors). It's often a star studded event and covered in costume play. Officially known as cosplay, a staple of fan conventions are the incredible outfits that are a labor of love by fans to their favorite characters.
I'm not in San Diego, why should I care about it?
Chances are you're a TV fan, and most big shows, networks, comic books, and movies attend the convention... networks send their big actors and exciting things go down! Previews, exclusive clips, pre-screenings and more are revealed, putting the entertainment world in an excited frenzy.
In recent years there have been overcrowding issues, and a proposal to expand the San Diego Convention center is underway. 2016 is currently the last confirmed year the convention will be in San Diego. The 2014 Comic Con convention is July 24-27, so we'll be featuring a lot of related content before, after and during the event!
