Syfy prepping Warehouse 13 spin-off

Friday - May 13, 2011

by Romeo53

Syfy Channel is developing a spin-off of its highest rated original drama, Warehouse 13, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed.

The series will follow the 1890s adventures of H.G. Wells, a recurring character in the show’s second season played by Jaime Murray.

“While it is still in the early stages and thus subject to change, the idea is to put Wells in a 1890s steampunk environment,” the site reports. “Despite Warehouse 12′s efforts to recruit her, she would remain a free agent who uses her knowledge of contemporary science to solve murders and other mysteries.

“In this incarnation, she would enlist the help of a mechanical engineer and utilize her relationship with the police commissioner to solve what appear to be unsolvable cases. Both the skills and style she employs will become the framework for the well-known stories of H.G. Wells, as written by her brother.”

The project is being developed by Warehouse 13 showrunner Jack Kenny and another writer. Warehouse 13 averaged 3.4 million viewers last summer (which would include DVR-delayed viewing), according to the Reporter.

Also on Syfy’s development slate in the scripted drama category is Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome (which is currently producing a pilot for the network and hasn’t been greenlit to series yet), and Alphas, which premieres its first season on Mondays this July.

Warehouse 13 returns with its third season on July 11.

Sounds great! I love Victorian era stories with anachronistic twists. I have to admit though, I had to look up to see what 'steampunk' meant. One of my all-time favorite movies is the 1960 version of "The Time Machine", so I guess I've been 'steampunk' for well over 40 years now.

that sounds great in theory. Do you think they will pull off this spinoff?

@rocketv8 - Just do what us other Aussie's do: Stuff the local networks (because they are useless anyway) and download the episodes of the shows "we want to watch" just after their airings in the US, UK or Canada.

You'll watch the show 6 to 12 months earlier than anyone locally, plus you won't have to sit up till 10.30pm or 11.30pm on the back half of the seasons.

vyp3r has hit the nail on the head. I used to watch t.v regularly like every one else, but since discovering downloading sites about 4 years ago, I chucked my telly and went straight for the sites. (Thank Paulie for that mate!!). I'm current with all the shows hours after they've been shown O/S- and I watch 'em when I want to.

Best of both worlds!

Thanks for all the info i have not watch any TV &,(,10 for about 7 year i have been downloading all my show and watching them on my Xbox. I was just saying that the show often get axed before they should. And then the Aussie market gets lumped with the show that is axed. But in saying that i need not worry but i'm a little pissed that they axe the great shows.

This season is great so far. Who knew Pete was once married. That was a shock.

The last episode had Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto Jones from Torchwood) in it with H.G. Wells in the 1890s. I would definitely give that proposed spinoff a long look.

You think he will be it the spin-off? I liked him in the flashback scenes, although he was a little slow. And the flashbacks made it look like Helena was a female Sherlock Holmes.

If they make it, sure, why not? This episode was the first indication I've seen ,or read since May, that they may be considering a spin-off.
