Shooter was originally planned to have 10 episodes until lead actor Ryan Phillippe broke his leg in a weekend family outing. Phillippes's injury meant that series producers decided to end the series after episode 8, as there is a natural point in the story that serves as a good season finale.

Amazon Cancels 'Z: The Beginning Of Everything'

Four months after renewing Z: The Beginning of Everything, Amazon appears to have had a change of heart regarding the series' future. It is now being reported that the streaming giant has instead cancelled the novel-based period drama, marking the first time the studio has reversed a renewal decision on one of its original series.
The Season 2 pickup back in April came as a surprise to many at the time, as insiders did not expect the show to continue. While viewership numbers are not known, critical response to the first season was generally lukewarm.
Today's cancellation comes as pre-production activities had reportedly begun some time ago on the new season, including a writer's room that had already been penning scripts for its sophomore run. Unfortunately, though, the move is rumored to be related to cost-cutting by the studio in terms of the money it wants to put towards its original projects in 2018.

Showtime Renews 'I'm Dying Up Here'

Showtime announced today that I'm Dying Up Here has been renewed for Season 2. The dramedy aired its freshman season over the summer but struggled to attract a substantial audience over its 10-episode run.
The series averaged roughly 142,000 viewers while ranking as the cable network's lowest-rated scripted original. On the plus side, though, the show saw its viewership increase in each of its last three episodes, with the season finale drawing its biggest audience of the season.

Production on Season 2 is slated to begin this fall, with a premiere sometime in 2018.

'Vikings' Renewed For Season 6

History announced today that Vikings has been renewed for a sixth season. The pickup comes as no surprise, as the veteran drama remains one of the cable network's strongest originals.
Inspired by the epic sagas about the trading and exploring Norsemen of early medieval Scandinavia, the Irish/Canadian co-production focuses on legendary Viking chieftain Ragnar Lodbrok, who was known for raiding France and England with his longships, and eventually becoming the king of Denmark and Sweden.
Today's good news comes over 2 months in advance of the Season 5 premiere, which is scheduled for November 29. Like Season 4, Seasons 5 and 6 of Vikings will both be comprised of 20 episodes apiece.
Production on Season 6 will kick off this fall in Ireland, with a likely premiere not until late 2018 or early 2019.
