Season 1 Quotes

01x01 - Sidetracked Season 1 / Episode 1: - Sidetracked

Povel Wallander: When you were a boy you used to ask my about my work, the painting. "Why are they always the same, Dad?" "Why don't you do something different?" I could never explain. You see, each morning, when I start, I think I'll do something else. This morning I'll paint a seascape. This morning I'll do a still life, maybe an abstract, just splash the paint, see where it takes me. And then I start, and every time, I paint the same thing. The landscape. Whatever I do, this is what comes out. What you've got is your painting. I may not like it, you may not like it, but it's yours.
Povel Wallander: You know what I'd like before I lose what's left of my mind? I'd like to go to Rome. I'd like that. Look at the paintings. Other people's paintings. Can we do that?
Kurt Wallander: Yeah. Yes, Dad. We can do that.
01x01 - Sidetracked Season 1 / Episode 1: - Sidetracked

Wetterstedt: That maniac puts an ax through my skull, by God you'll pay!
Anne-Britt Hoglund: I'm willing to take that risk.

Season 1 Trivia

  • Episode 02 - Goof (continuity error): Wallander's mobile phone changes phone language several times during the film, from english to swedish, and the other way around.
  • Episode 01 - Kenneth Branagh's performance as Swedish cop Kurt Wallander makes it the third time when a famous Swedish movie/television cop gets portrayed by an actor who is not from Sweden/speaking Swedish. The first two are Walter Matthau as Jake Martin
  • Episode 03 - Goof (revealing mistake): The mole on Kenneth Branagh's chin moves from one side to the other in different scenes. Apparently the film was flipped in some of the scenes.
  • Episode 02 - Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): The murdered taxi driver's bloody ID card reads "Johan Lundberg," but later when Wallander later refers to him on the phone, he calls him "Gunnar" Lundberg.
  • Episode 03 - Goof (miscellaneous): Wallander has two moles, one below his the left of his mouth and one just above his chin to the right of center. It would have been difficult to flip the film as the season was filmed using digital cameras.
