The V stands for visitor (and in the original series it also stood for victory). "5th column" is a well known phrase defined in the dictionary as 'a group of people who clandestinely undermine a larger group such as a nation from within' and has its origins in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), when four columns of General Francisco Franco's troops marching towards Madrid were assisted by others from within the city, whom General Franco called his "fifth column" in a radio address. (However, the term is misused in this series as it seems to be a generic synonym for resistance or insurgency. Ironically, the population of undercover sleeper Visitors who lived on Earth for years in preparation for the Mother Ships' arrival, often as FBI agents, would be a much better candidate for the name 5th column.)

  • An important address in the show is 4400 Pier Ave. Joel Gretsch, who plays Father Jack Landry on the show, starred in the TV series The 4400.
  • Lucy Lawless was considered to play Erica Evans, the lead character. However, she had already signed on to appear in "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" (2010), which premiered little after V.
