On an entirely normal day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky, a gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when, or if, it will go away.
- The series is based on Stephen King's novel "Under the Dome". In his afterword, King says he first started the novel with 75 pages in 1976, then set it aside until 2007-2009.
- Although there is no actual FM radio station with the call sign WYBS, during the 1970s there was a pirate station in Hartford, Connecticut operating as WYBS at 88.9 MHz. The fictional WYBS in the show transmits at "89.3FM".
