Episode Quotes

Sideshow Bob: No children have ever meddled with the Republican Party and lived to tell about it.
Sideshow Bob: [Bob calls Birch Barlow's show during a prison riot] I am presently incarcerated, imprisoned for a crime I did not even commit. "Attempted murder," now honestly, did they ever give anyone a Nobel prize for "attempted chemistry?" [ducks a flying sink] Oh really now, this is a personal call!
Principal Skinner: Bart, by special order of the Mayor's office, you're being held back.
Bart: Oh, I have to repeat the fourth grade?
Principal Skinner: Yes, but not for four or five years. Bart, you're going to kindergarten.
Bart: Kindergarten?
Mrs. Krabappel: [pops champagne] Ha!

Mistakes/Goofs

  • Goof (factual errors): The plot of the episode hinges on a supposed act of voter fraud, and the evidence given is that Bob's campaign used the names of dead people and pets to vote for him. However, the polls showed 99 or 100% support for Bob anyway. So obviously, all the legitimate voters did actually vote for him, which means that the fraudulent votes did not make any difference. Bob really did win the election legitimately.

Trivia

  • This episode features the first appearance of Right-wing-radio-talk-show host Birch Barlow, who is obviously modeled after Rush Limbaugh.
  • The famous snake's name "Humphrey Boa-Gart" is an obvious pun on the name of Humphrey Bogart.
