1x01 Friends and Enemies
First Aired: Jan. 19, 2014 on BBC America
Summary: Athos, Porthos and Aramis are sent by Captain Treville to locate a missing musketeer carrying important letters on behalf of King Louis. Cardinal Richelieu has plans to increase his political power and wants to sabotage the reputation of the musketeers. D’Artagnan leaves his family farm…
Aramis: Or a bad one.
Porthos: We won't tell if you won't.
Constance: Why do you want to know?
D'Artagnan: I have some business to settle on my father's behalf.
- Goof (factual errors): Having primed the pan and put the rest of the powder down the barrel, and tamped it, even had he not added the ball and some wadding, the musket would still have fired. Without the ball, no projectile would have been shot - there would have been a bang, and smoke - the target, at such close range, might have had some powder burns.
- In the original novel, D'Artagnan met each of the Three Musketeers and challenged them to duels, which is how they first saw what a brave man and a good fighter he was. For the series, this was changed to D'Artagnan believing Athos had killed his father and seeking revenge.
