  • Episode 02 - The character Gordy Berry's name is a play on the real name of Berry Gordy, who is best known for founding Motown Records.
  • Episode 17 - The episode title "Will is From Mars" is a homage to the novel 'Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus'.
  • Episode 09 - After feeling emasculated when Lisa beats up a bully at the bowling alley, Will seeks karate instruction from Mr. Yoshi, played by Pat Morita. Pat Morita is best known for his roles in The Karate Kid I, II, III and The Next Karate Kid. Will Smith's son, Jaden Smith, plays the title role in 2010's The New K
