South Park is a subversive animated series featuring four boys who live in the Colorado town of South Park, which is beset by frequent odd occurrences. The show grew out of short film that Trey Parker and Matt Stone created called The Spirit of Christmas.
Comedy Central announced today that South Park has been renewed for seasons 21, 22, and 23. A new deal was reached with creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone for a total of 30 episodes over the three seasons, which ensures the animated comedy will be airing new content through at least 2019.
South Park is the longest-running primetime cable scripted series on television, and with today's extension it will surpass the 300-episode milestone. Parker and Stone have written and directed every episode since its inception in 1997, and will continue to do so as the show heads towards 20+ years on the air.
