Season 3 Quotes

03x01 - The Empty Hearse Season 3 / Episode 1: - The Empty Hearse

Dr. John Watson: One word, Sherlock! That is all I would have needed! One word to let me know that you were alive!
Sherlock Holmes: I've nearly been in contact so many times, but... I worried that, you know, you might say something indiscreet.
Dr. John Watson: What?
Sherlock Holmes: Oh you know, let the cat out of the bag.
Dr. John Watson: Oh so this is my fault? [Mary starts laughing] Why am I the only one who thinks that this is wrong? The only one reacting like a human being.
Sherlock Holmes: Over-reacting.
Dr. John Watson: [Yelling] Over-reacting!
Mary Morstan: John!
Dr. John Watson: Over-reacting! So you fake your own death and you waltz here, large as bloody life, but I'm not supposed to have a problem with that, no. Because Sherlock Holmes thinks it's a perfectly okay thing to do!
Sherlock Holmes: Shut up, John! I don't want everyone knowing I'm still alive.
Dr. John Watson: Oh, so it's still a secret, is it?
Sherlock Holmes: Yes! It's still a secret. Promise you won't tell anyone.
03x01 - The Empty Hearse Season 3 / Episode 1: - The Empty Hearse

Mrs. Hudson: Sherlock? Talk to John.
Sherlock Holmes: I already tried talking to him, he made his position quite clear.
Dr. John Watson: [John is in his office examining a patient with an undescended testicle. He lifts a middle finger] Just relax, Mr Summers.
Mrs. Hudson: What did he say?
Sherlock Holmes: F...
Dr. John Watson: [feeling his patient's testicles] Cough.
Mrs. Hudson: Oh dear.

The newspapers featured were Daily Express, Daily Mirror and another without a name - none of which are owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp company.
  • Episode 01 - SPOILER: Sumatra Road tube station does not exist and was fabricated for the story. Sumatra Road itself does exist and is approximately five miles away from the Palace of Westminster. There is, however an underground station near Sumatra Road called North End (colloquially known as 'The Bull and Bush') whi
  • Episode 02 - Goof (factual errors): In the stabbings of both victims John and Sherlock are both heard to say that the victims were stabbed "in the abdomen" or "in the stomach". However when the villain is shown committing his crime, he is clearly stabbing both of them in the back.
  • Episode 01 - SPOILER: Sherlock's parents are played by Benedict Cumberbatch's real-life parents, Wanda Ventham and Timothy Carlton.
  • Episode 03 - When Magnussen is "reading" his mental list of Sherlock's pressure points (weaknesses), the list on the screen scrolls on for some time (and Magnussen mocks Sherlock by saying that he has "rather a lot"). However, there are actually only six pressure points listed, and to achieve the effect
