Episode Quotes

Lister: Sir, just suppose... suppose if I had a cat, what would you do with Frankenstein?
Captain Hollister: I'd send it down to the medical bay and have it cut up and run tests on it.
Lister: Would you put the cat together again?
Captain Hollister: Lister, the cat would be dead.
Lister: With all due respect sir, what's in it for the cat?
Lister: Three million years! I've still got that library book.
Lister: [to Holly] Look out Earth! The slimes coming home!

Mistakes/Goofs

  • Goof (miscellaneous): In the Remastered version of the episode, Robert Bathurst's name is misspelled 'Robert Bathhurst' in the closing credits.
  • Goof (crew or equipment visible): When Lister tells the door to lock after Rimmer leaves for the exam, you can see a crew member's hand out the window.
  • Goof (continuity error): After first meeting the cat and returning to the teaching room, all the piles of crew members' ashes have disappeared from the desks.
  • Goof (continuity error): When Lister and Rimmer argue in the drive room, Lister stands up and walks across the floor. When he says, "You're a hologram, so what?" he is suddenly sitting down again.
  • Goof (continuity error): When Lister says his cigarette is a chicken he looks at it. In the next shot he looks at it again.

Trivia

  • In the original script, George McIntyre's funeral song was "Heaven is Ten Zillion Light Years Away" (Stevie Wonder) rather than the final version's "See Ya Later, Alligator".
  • A scene was cut from the first episode in which Lister performs a funeral service for his dead shipmates. It can be seen on the Series I DVD.
  • Lister is worshipped by the Cat race as "Cloister the Stupid"; a cloister is a covered walk, open gallery, or open arcade running along the walls of buildings forming a quadrangle or garth.
  • In the pilot, Rimmer is in his early 30s and Lister is in his early 20s. Chris Barrie was 26 and Craig Charles was 22 when it was filmed.
  • Danny John-Jules performed "See You Later, Alligator" by Bill Haley, which was used in the George McIntyre funeral scene.
