Marvel's Iron Fist

Daniel Rand is the son of Wendell Rand, who had, as a youth, visited the mystic city of K'un-Lun, which materialized in the Himalayas once a decade; founded roughly a million years ago by extraterrestrials, K'un-Lun was co-ruled by the aliens' descendants and powerful beings called the Dragon Kings, who were themselves subject to the godlike sorcerer Master Khan. Rand had saved the life of K'un-Lun's ruler Lord Tuan, who adopted Rand as his heir, to the resentment of Tuan's son, Yu-Ti.

Episode 6, "Immortal Emerges From Cave", was directed by the RZA. RZA is a member of the hip-hop group Wu-tang Clan and created many of their signature beats which include samples from several legendary kung-fu movies. RZA also wrote, directed and starred in the feature film "The Man With The Iron Fists (2012)". Coincidentally, Dave Bautista was also featured in that movie and would go on to star as Drax in "Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)" and its sequel, which is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that now includes Iron Fist.

The character of Iron Fist was introduced in 1974 in Marvel Premiere #15 by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane. This was around the same time the Kung Fu movie genre was rising due to the popularity of Bruce Lee (who passed away a year earlier). Iron Fist's philosophy parallels Lee's in that one must focus his/her mind (Lee said "Empty Your Mind & Be Like Water") in order to control your body and power. An example of this is Bruce Lee's famous "One Inch Punch" where he could generate explosive power from a punch traveling a short distance. Iron Fist performs a similar feat when he harnesses his Chi to also generate explosive power to get through tough obstacles.

  • Iron Fist was trained in the land of K'un Lun, along with a few other heroes from the comics.
