Narrated through flashbacks from the future, comedy recounts how architect & eternal romantic Ted realized he had better get a move on if he hoped to find the true love found by his best friend Marshall and his wife Lily. Helping him in his quest is Barney, a friend with endless, sometimes outrageous opinions, a penchant for suits and a foolproof way to meet women; and Robin, a pretty newscaster.
The daughter is played by Lyndsy Fonseca, and the son is played by David Henrie. The character's names are not known, but in the episode Milk, Lily told Ted to swear on his unborn son and daughter and he replied, "I swear on Luke and Leia".
Ted's kids were in the beginning of the 9 first episodes. In total they have been in 25 episodes (plus some repeats of the time when Ted said "I love you" to Robin and they said "What!?"), but they have only talked in 12 episodes.
|Season 2 / Episode 1: - Where Were We?|
Narrator: Okay, where were we? It was June of 2006, and life had just taken an unexpected turn
Daughter: Can't you just skip ahead to the part were you meet mom? I feel like you've been talking for like, a year.
Narrator: Honey, all this stuff I'm telling you is important. It's all part of the story.
Son: Can I go to the bathroom?
|Season 1 / Episode 7: - Matchmaker|
Narrator: Kids, before I met your mother; when I was still out there searching; I learned something valuable: love is not a science.
Daughter: Wow, that was a great story dad [gets off the couch]
Son: [Also gets off the couch] We're gonna go watch TV.
Narrator: [Continues, kids sit back down grudgingly] You see, sometimes in life you just have to accept that certain things can't be changed...
