Good Times

Good Times was a spin-off of Maude. The series centered around Maude's black housekeeper Florida Evans, her husband James, and children J.J., Thelma, and Michael. The Evans also had a next door neighbor Wilona Woods who was also a main character on the show.The family lived in a housing project in southern Chicago and were always struggling to survive. Mr. Bookman was the Evans' landlord.

They asked him why the characters had to live in a slum, be so poor, be so afflicted by crime and perpetuate so many stereotypes about the black experience. This eventually led to the creation of "The Jeffersons," a show that attempted to show a black family in a more positive, upwardly mobile light.
