Main Characters in this Episode
Captain Zapp Brannigan: Men, you're lucky men. Soon, you'll all be fighting for your planet. many of you will be dying for your planet. A few of you will be put through a fine mesh screen for your planet. They will be the luckiest of all.
Captain Zapp Brannigan: Stop exploding, you cowards.
Bender: These balls are making me testy! If they don't stop bouncing and jiggling, I swear I'm gonna shove this treaty up their... Wait a minute, where do you shove things up a ball?
- SPOILER: When it aired originally, the last few minutes of the episode were pre-empted on the East Coast of the United States for a live news conference, held by Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris, announcing the soon-to-be-controversial certification that named George W. Bush the winner in Florida of the 2000 presidential election. The interruption by Fox News occurred just after Bender screamed when he thought he said the word to blow up the planet, followed by a few seconds of black screen.
- The scene where it switches to the hospital has many large references to the classic American TV series M*A*S*H. The PA announcer and the scene with Dr. Zoidberg arguing with a robot (which has "iHawk" written on the front, referencing Hawkeye Pierce, the series' main character) are both the two main examples.
- The store where Fry buys ham-flavored chewing gum has a sign that says, "Free bag of ice-9 with six-pack". Ice-9 is a fictional form of ice which is solid at room temperature, described by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. in his novel "Cat's Cradle".
