Fargo

Each season, the series will be set in a different era and will follow a new story with new characters, limited to 10 episodes per season. The series is set in the same fictional universe as the film with a number of references made connecting the series to the film. Although each episode begins with the superimposed text: "This is a true story", this claim is completely fictional. This show offers dark humor with odd twists.

Fargo Renewed For Season 3

FX announced today that Fargo has been renewed for a third season. Creator Noah Hawley will once again helm the Emmy Award-winning series, though it not clear whether its next installment will feature new characters in a different time period as Season 2 did.
Fargo is currently airing new episodes on Monday nights, with its critically-acclaimed second season scheduled to wrap up in mid-December. Look for Season 3 in 2016, though a premiere date has not been announced as of yet.

Every episode starts with the onscreen words "This is a true story. The events depicted in this film took place in Minnesota in 2006 (or 1979 depending on what season it is). At the request of the survivors, the names have been changed. Out of respect for the dead, the rest has been told exactly as it occurred." This is a nod to the way that the 1996 source movie Fargo started (also by claiming that its events were based on a true story). However, neither the movie nor the TV show are actually based on true events. In a 2014 interview, the show's Executive Producer Noah Hawley clarified the "true story" episode introductions by saying "the show.... It's all just made up. The whole cloth. I didn't go looking for [a] true crime. It started from a character standpoint and everything grew organically out of that."
